The Fairness Doctrine: Should we be concerned?

The Fairness Doctrine is a real concern for those that speak to the issues from the right. The resurgence of talk radio began when the fairness doctrine was removed. The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was (in the FCC’s view) honest, equitable, and balanced. The fairness doctrine was in force between 1949 and 1987 when it was unanimously was abolished by the FCC, but it must be said that it had been under attack and challenged in courts for several years previous. Currently, Nancy Pelosi, Dick Durbin, and John Kerry support bringing it back. For more information, read here.
